Meeting

Sunday September 19, 7-9 Kate’s House

  1. Sign-off on any work completed during the summer.
  2. Plan of Volunteer Cause:
We discussed supporting a international group involving children and I said that I would get back to you regarding the Children without Parents group in Africa. Unfortunately, they only sponsor and work with adults, which won’t benefit us for the Overseas Residential Project that we are considering. With that in mind, we have started a local chapter of Free the Children, and I think it would be a wonderful cause for our group. It offers:
*Fundraising opportunities (we can raise $8,500.00 to build a school)
*Travel for our Residential Project (we can help build a school in Equador)
*Lots of volunteer hours throughout the upcoming years both for local groups and overseas.
*An amazing support system, and a great organisation
  3. Plan the two fund-raising streams, personal (for the overseas Residential Program) and for the Group Free the Children
  4. Plan the overnight trip Adventure Journey for the May Long Weekend. We have all had a very difficult time planning this event. I spoke with the regional office about how other groups handle this problem. Basically, most group leaders choose (with consultation) the location of the journey and set the basic framework of the journey. The DoE participants then plan the details, which include: purpose of the journey, food supplies, equipment supplies, emergency and contingency plans, detailed maps and orienteering, studies of local wildlife and environmental impacts...etc. I have planned the foundation for the Bronze Adventure Journey (you will love it) for next spring, which we will discuss at the meeting.
  5. Plan the Halloween for Hunger campaign. The Halloween for Hunger campaign helps you take action to fight local poverty. Each Halloween, thousands of young people across the United States and Canada sign up with this Free The Children campaign and collect non-perishable food items while they trick or trick. The food they collect is then donated to a local food bank to fight hunger.
